Diptyque Pop-Up Store – Mayfair
Everyone’s favourite home fragrance and perfume brand, Diptyque, has popped up on10 Hanvover Street, Mayfair with an immersive exhibition/store to mark it’s 50th year of making fragrances. The space is divided up into sections that include a special photo booth for selfies (smellfiies!), a wall of gorgeous and complimentary postcards for you to pick from (Diptyque will mail them to family and friends for you), a perfumer’s palette where there’s 30 raw fragrance materials to try out and lots more besides. The best part of my visit was at The Artist Box where I discovered my new favourite fragrance, Oyédo, which is a gorgeous fruity blend of yuzu, green tangerine and thyme. Without knowing the notes, I described it as being grapefruit-y and a perfectly balanced citrus scent – not too sweet or too tarte.
The pop up is on until the 22nd October but good times to attend might be on 19th October when they’ll be complimentary embroidering on all purchases and on 20th October for the Build Your Own Bouquet session. For more info and to book into workshops email email@example.com
Snap by Belinda Bauer
I love thrillers and crime novels but I just don’t have the stomach these days for anything too gory. I like puzzles, intrigue and twists not detailed accounts of bodies being hacked to pieces. Snap by Belinda Bauer is a real page turner and reminds me of the novels by Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith. It’s more of a comfort read than a challenging one but it’s really funny in places and poignant too – a perfect book to relax with.
Casual on Amazon Prime
Casual is an under-the-radar comedy drama that centres around a likeable sister and her less likeable brother in their forties. It follows them as they try and negotiate the peaks and troughs of dating, relationships, family and work in the modern age. It’s so modern that the fourth and final series is set in the near future where driverless ubers are already a thing. The humour is subtle and the drama isn’t very pacy but it’s smart and insightful. I started watching it thinking I’d give up on it after 10 mins but I stayed the course and really enjoyed it.
Celapro by Nutri Advanced
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as well as being aware of the importance of self-checking for breast cancer symptoms I think it’s also good to be aware of ways of reducing your risk of developing breast cancer. I wrote a post with some tips that can help with this which were given to me by leading breast cancer surgeon, Prof Mokbul. Prof Mokbul is also on twitter and he often shares links to the latest research. Recently he tweeted that ‘curcumin, flavonoids, and resveratrol are the most active natural products against breast cancer’. I’ve actually been taken a Nutri Advanced supplement, Celapro, that contains these actives. Obviously, I’m not a nutritionist and can’t be randomly recommending supplements but I can let you know they exist so you can do your own research.
