Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years you probably know that Vitamin C is one of the most important ingredients for prevention and treatment in skincare. Everyone from beauty bloggers (like myself) to dermatologists recommend it. It helps slow down the breakdown of collagen and prevents the formation of pigmentation by protecting skin from the damaging effects of UV rays and pollution. It brightens and evens out tone and promotes collagen synthesis. It comes second only to retinoids and retinols for its proven effectiveness but without the side effects.
I’ve been using Vitamin C serums for years and feel my skin has very much benefited from them. However, I’m always looking for the most up to date Vitamin C formulations and the Exuviance AF Vitamin C Serum Capsules currently fits that bill. Most Vitamin C serums tend to be 15% or less but these are 20%. They also contain Aminofil which is a patented amino acid compound that helps plumps, firms and volumize skin.
They also come in capsule form and the most obvious advantage of this is that they will keep the Vitamin C fresh and active. Unfortunately, Vitamin C is notoriously unstable and goes off quickly when exposed to air. This means that a free flowing Vitamin C serum starts degrading as soon as you open the bottle. With the AF Vitamin C Serum the last capsule in the bottle will be as fresh as the first.
The other big advantage of the capsules is that less preservative is needed. A less obvious benefit of the capsules is that they contain a precise single dose so there’s no waste and you’re not using more than is beneficial. Far too often we use more product than necessary with the ‘just in case’ mindset but with skincare more doesn’t equate to better.
The AF Vitamin C serum absorbs quickly and easily and makes skin feel instantly smooth and hydrated. The brand recomneds that you break the capsule open and squeeze out the contents into your hand and then apply to your face. However, I prefer to dot the product directly on to my face as I find I get a more even application that way. It’s also recommended that you use it an night but I’ve been using it in the morning as that’s how I’m used to using Vitamin C.
Another new launch from Exuviance is the Detox Mud Treatment which is brilliant for deep cleaning the skin. It contains Japanese Binchotton Charcoal and French Clay that rids the skin of the impurities that accumulate in the pores and absorbs excess oil. It also contains NeoGlucosamine that acts as a light exfoliant. You apply it for 15 mins then rinse and it’s recommended you use it twice a week. Unlike a lot of mud masks this doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry but it does make it look bright and very clean in a way that a normal double cleanse doesn’t. Though this is a product that gives instant results I’m sure that regular use will also help improve skin health over the long term.
