Update: A lovely reader, Dawn, was kind enough to let me know that a version of this post made it into the February issue of Top Santé.
At the end of last year Top Santé asked me to recommend 3 beauty products and 3 beauty tips with a winterish slant for their January issue. Unfortunately, my recommendations didn’t make it into the magazine which is a shame but no biggie – these things happen. However, I did put a lot of consideration into my choices so I thought why not share them here:
Triple Impact Pre-Shampoo Treatment – PeRa 357
This has been a life saver for my lacklustre and winter-damaged locks. This one product works three ways to increase shine, add volume and decrease drying time which in turn leads to less damage over the long term. Pera 357 is £30 and available HERE.
Hight Impact Lash Elevating Mascara – Clinique
I love how this mascara gives me a wide awake look even when I’m feeling anything but. The curling polymers give a root to tip lift making lash curlers redundant. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes and removes easily. Lash Elevating Mascara is £20 and available HERE.
Blemish Dots – Skyn Iceland
Though I’m 47 I still get the odd spot and these dots are a huge help. Once applied they’re invisible and contain salicylic acid and tea tree oil to reduce inflammation and speed up the healing time. Blemish dots are £17.50 and available HERE.
Doing Yoga Regularly
I always make time to practise yoga. The focus on breathing combined with the flowing movement is great for oxygenating the blood and improving circulation. It literally makes my skin glow! It also increases my strength and mobility without putting pressure on my joints and has a calming effect on the mind. I mainly attend classes at The Life Centre.
Sleeping On A Silk Pillowcase
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase means I no longer wake up with my face covered in creases. The silky surface doesn’t make an imprint on the skin and also creates less friction. Another advantage of a silk pillowcase is that it doesn’t draw in moisture so skin and hair stays more hydrated. I like the Slip ones (currently on offer at £67.15) as they’re very durable.
Using Sun Protection In Winter
Wearing sun protection all year round is a must. UVA rays are responsible for photo-ageing and they are at the same level during the colder months as they are in Summer. Though it’s tempting to not bother with an SPF product in Winter, it will help prevent cumulative damage from UV rays. My current favourite is the Murad City Skin SPF 50 (on offer at £38.25).
