Customisable skincare is going to be a huge trend in the years ahead. I recently had coffee with a beauty PR who said that a big high street brand she represents are currently looking into how they can make their skincare range customisable. However, as is often the way, it’s the smaller brands that are leading the way. One example is Universkin which is a range where specially selected actives are blended into a base product. The products are great but unfortunately prohibitively expensive for most people. A more purse friendly alternative but no less innovative is Bio-Extracts who’ve come up with a very clever way to adapt their skincare products to suit your individual skin type and skin aims.
There are 4 base face products (Normal, Light, Rich and Delicate) and 2 base eye products (Ultra Rich and Age Defying). There are then 11 Boosters to choose from which come in syringe dispensers which you then add to your base product depending on what you feel your skin needs at that particular time.
As skin varies so much from day to day, this system gives you the control to address these issues effectively. Among the Boosters to choose from there are ones for Hydration, Redness, Glow, Lifting etc. and it’s recommended that you can mix and max up to 4 shots into one application of the base cream.
So, for example, if your skin is feeling dry but also looking a little dull you could add 2 Hydro Boost shots and 2 Glow Boost shots. It’s suggested that you mix the products together on the plate of the base cream but I find it easier to do it on the palm of my (clean) palm.
Along with the ingenuity of the system, I’m really impressed by the quality of the products themselves. The creams have a Multi-Lameller system which structurally mimics the skins own layers. It acts like a patch on the skin and helps restore the barrier function and prevent water loss. The Boosters have a phospholipid delivery system which ensure the actives are delivered deep into the skin where they’re needed.
My personal choice of products is the Normal Cream with the Hydro Boost, Anti-Wrinkle Boost and Anti-Oxidant Boost and I enjoy playing scientist and mixing up my shots depending on how my skin in feeling. More importantly, my skin responds well and feels great after use.
All the products are vegan, cruelty-free and British made which are additional big bonuses. I also think they’re very well priced and they have the look and feel of more expensive products. The face creams are £27, Eye Creams £24 and Boosters are £19.50 available HERE. However, there are deals like buying one cream with 4 boosters and saving £26.
