It’s Beauty Law that you can’t write about anti-ageing neck treatments without quoting the title of Nora Ephron’s book ‘I feel bad about my neck…’. Ephron also said in the same titled essay that ‘there’s not a damn thing you can do about it’. However, this was published in 2007 and things have moved on since then. Firstly, we’re learning to be more accepting of the inevitable ageing process and embrace the changes that come with age instead of feeling bad about them. Also, there’s now things you do can do to prevent and treat this area that actually work.
The thing that will make the biggest difference is to wear a high, broad spectrum sun protection cream every day and, of course, this has always been the case. There’s also been advances in both at-home and in-clinic options that can really help with the neck area and these are the ones I believe are the most promising…
No 7 Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi-Action Serum
I’ve been a fan of the original Restore & Renew Serum since it launched so didn’t hesitate to start using the latest version that’s for the face and neck. Calcium Amino Acids and Ceramides have been added to the original formula (which you can read about HERE) and these help strengthen the top layer of the skin to address lack of firmness and the crepiness that often shows itself on the neck. Calcium helps maintain a healthy epidermis but natural levels deplete with age and Calcium Amino Acids restores these levels while ceramides are great for skin that is becoming dry and thinner.
For best results you need to commit to using this serum over the long term as it will help both with prevention and repair. As well as the neck, this serum is perfect to use on the back of the hands as this area has the same issues as the neck – thinner skin and less oil glands.
The reason I trust and use No7 serums generally is because they’ve been proven to work in clinical trials and considering the amount of research and development that goes into them they’re extremely competitively priced.
NeoStrata Triple Neck Firming Cream
After letting the above serum absorb I then apply this gem of a product. It also has a clinical study to back up its effectiveness and is highly recommended by a lot of cosmetic doctors like the very well respected Dr Stephanie Williams.
The ‘Triple’ in the name refers to a trio of ingredients that work in synergy to correct lack of firmness, lines and texture. They are:
8% NeoGlucosamine – this increases your own supply of Hyaluronic Acid which in turn plumps up skin.
NeoCitrate – stimulates collagen production
Apple Stem Extract – this encourages skin to behave like younger skin.
The cream itself is highly moisturising without being overly rich and absorbs quickly. Like anyone who’s tried the products, I’m a huge fan of Neostrata and the Triple Firming Neck Cream is definitely a keeper.
The best price I can find for NeoStrata Triple Neck Firming Cream is £34.89 at Skin Oracle.
Debbie Thomas Neck Smoothie Treatment
Debbie Thomas is an undisputed expert at high-tech facial treatments and she’s recently opened up at Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge to offer a menu of 20 minute treatments including the Neck Smoothie. This involves a soft peel, radio frequency, Baby Laser and Ultrasound Hydrating product infusion using the latest products and technology.
The immediate results from the treatment were a visibly smoother and tighter neck and jawline. The Baby Laser also stimulates collagen production and the results from that can be seen about 6 weeks later. The treatment is pretty much pain-free though the Baby Laser does ping the skin a bit. They say you might get some mild redness for up to 24hrs after this treatment but my neck just looked 5 years younger.
The reason the treatment can be performed so quickly is that it literally takes minutes to do a ‘pass’ with a laser over an area such the face or neck. What’s left out of this treatment is the faff and pampering which can make up a large chunk of a spa-type treatment. This clinical treatment is all business but I still found it relaxing which I wasn’t really expecting.
The Neck Smoothie is £89. More info on this and other treatments available as part of the Debbie Thomas Illuminate Menu is available HERE.
This treatment will give as near to a non-surgical neck as you’re likely to get. I’ve written about it extensively HERE, HERE and HERE so there’s no point repeating myself other than to say I’m extremely impressed with the results I got from it and wouldn’t hesitate to have it done again.
