As I’ve been pregnant and lost weight my tummy isn’t as smooth and taut as I’d like it to be. It’s not so bad to warrant a ‘tummy tuck’ but even if it was there’s no way I’d consider having that done. Abdominoplasty is a major operation that needs weeks of downtime – it probably has the toughest recovery compared to other cosmetic procedures. Thankfully, there’s now options that can help tighten and rejuvenate areas of the body such as stomach, buttocks etc that doesn’t involve the risks of going under the knife or the associated downtime. Of course, the results aren’t going to be quite as dramatic as having surgery but that’s a compromise I’m well prepared to take in order not have my every day life disrupted in any way.
There’s two main non-surgical options available – radio frequency and ultrasound – and after getting advice from several cosmetic doctors it’s ultrasound and particularly the Ultraformer III that gets the most votes. The only problem is that it can be very painful but a little more research led me to EF MediaSpa where they’ve devised their own protocol using the Ultraformer III that makes the treatment much more tolerable. Basically, instead of one painful treatment you have a course of 3/4 at a lower setting so it hardly hurts. Also, it’s said by doing it this way you end up with a better result.
The treatment is called the 3D Skin Lift (using the Ultraformer III) and it uses high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) which is proven to be completely safe and effective. It works in three ways to target sagging skin. It stimulates muscle in the lower layers for a tightening effect, then it promotes collagen production over the weeks ahead and lastly it targets the fine lines/wrinkles on the surface of the skin.
While there is an immediate boost to the area being treated the real results take at least several weeks to show and are cumulative with each treatment. Therefore, now is a great time to start thinking about having it done in order to for the final result to be ready for the summer. I’m going to write about what actually happens during the treatment in my next post but suffice to say it only took 40 minutes and didn’t hurt at all.
