I always used to think of Shiseido as a brand that made great skincare (and suncare, in particular) but it wouldn’t cross my mind to look to them for makeup. This changed last year after trying their brilliant Full Lash Volume Mascara. Now they’re launching a lipstick that really knocks it out the park.
Shiseido Rouge Rouge is a new collection of lipsticks that have been created so everyone can find their perfect red. However, if you’re not a fan of ‘red’ reds it’s worth pointing out that the variation in shades is quite broad and includes roses, pinks and plums.
I’ve been testing out two shades and I’m really impressed with how they look and feel on the lips. They’re really creamy and long lasting with a sheeny finish. My favourite is Sweet Desire which is a very easy to wear pinky-mauve while Ruby Copper is a bright, classic red and is perfect for making a statement.
They were created by Shiseido’s Artistic Director, Dick Page and have something that’s being called 5-red colour payoff:
Basic Red – A foundation pigment which maximises colour payoff.
Blending Red – Merges with the lip tone to give a natural colour.
Vivid Red – Converts light that isn’t red into red so the colour can never become dull.
Intense Red – Creates a light reflection to add dimension and depth.
Diffused Red – Colour corrects unevenness by emitting red light crating a soft focus effect.
It’s hard to say how much of the above is true technology and what’s clever marketing. However, what’s not in doubt is that these lipsticks are really amazing – they have the kind of formula that it’s very easy to get addicted to. As for the other shades, Temptalia has swatched them all HERE. I have my eye on Rose Crush.
Shiseido Rouge Rouge launches on 23rd September and they’ll be £23.
