Over the last few months I’ve achieved something I’ve wanted (and needed) to do for a long time and that’s lose a shedload of weight. However, I still have some places where there’s bulge that won’t budge and the area that bothers me the most is around my tummy. This is because it has the greatest impact on my general silhouette and on how clothes look and fit.
Though it might be possible to lose this pad of fat I strongly suspect that it would mean losing too much volume from my face and boobs first before it would start to shift from my stomach and that’s quite a high price to pay. Therefore I decided to take advantage of how advanced aesthetic treatments have become and started looking into non-invasive body contouring treatments.
After doing lots of research it became clear that there are two options that can give good results – CoolScultping and Sculpsure. Coolsculpting has been around for a while and lots of clinics offer it but I was put off by the potential downtime. I know people who have had it done and they’ve been in quite a lot of pain for a few days after and even needed bed rest. This wouldn’t be practical for me as I’ve a young daughter. Also, the treatment itself can be a bit uncomfortable and there’s the ‘ick factor’ of a frozen block of fat appearing on your stomach.
So, I decided on Sculpsure as the treatment is quick and there’s no downtime at all. It’s relatively new to the UK but has been around longer in the US where it’s been getting great reviews. Something else I find reassuring is that the clinics in the UK that are now offering Sculpsure are the highly regarded ones with reputations for only providing the best treatments.
Sculpsure uses laser light technology and is FDA approved. It’s been clinically proven to destroy 24% of fat cells in one 25 minute treatment with results becoming visible after 6-12 weeks. The average loss from the tummy is approx. 5cm. The wavelength of laser (1060nm) that’s used only recognises fat cells so passes through the upper layers of the skin without effecting them. When it hits the fat cells they get heated up and are destroyed permanently. The body then naturally eliminates them.
This might be obvious but Sculpsure only works on subcutaneous fat i.e. fat that you can pinch and not visceral fat which is the kind that can surround internal organs. It also works best on smallish areas of fat and is most suitable for those with a BMI under 30. Therefore, it’s best for those who are generally slim but have pockets of fat they want to shift or for those who’ve lost weight and need a helping hand in reaching their final goal, like me.
