A French car manufacturer, DS Automobiles, has teamed up with Givenchy and created a makeup themed car – the DS3 Givenchy Le Makeup. Its special features include a pink dashboard, a secret compartment in the front armrest filled with Givenchy makeup and LED lighting on the sun visor mirrors for ‘the best possible illumination’ for applying makeup.
Maybe I’m out of touch with what young women look for when buying a car but I can’t help feeling highly patronised by this offering. Even when I was in my late teens/twenties I’m pretty damn sure I’d have been embarrassed to be in a car that advertises my love for makeup.
What’s depressing is the thought that Le Makeup might be highly appealing to women rather than a misjudgement on the part of the DS Automobiles and Givenchy. It’s a sad indictment of our vain and selfie obsessed times if women are buying cars because it has a lipstick holder rather than, say, a great sound system.
There will be 1400 cars manufactured with 500 to be sold in the UK. It will come in a hatchback and convertible with prices starting from (a staggering) £19,395.
