Considering how much I love Guerlain perfumes I’ve been remarkably slow in catching on to their Aqua Allegoria range. However, I’m now properly caught up as I have four of these glorious fragrances and plan to continue adding more to my collection.
Guerlain launched Aqua Allegoria in 1999 with five scents and one or two new ones are launched every year, mainly as limited editions. This year’s new addition is Pera Granita* and though it shares the same signature as those in its Aqua Allegoria family, it also has its own distinct and beautiful character.
Aqua Allegoria fragrances are inspired by the wonders of nature and they’re all bright, outdoorsy, young, uplifting and fresh. Pera Granita means Pear Sorbet and it’s a natural fit with rest of the collection in the way itperfectly encapsulates the mood of Summer.
The notes are:
Top: Calabrian Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon
Heart: Pear, Osmanthus, Orange Blossom
Base: Cedar, Moss, White Musk
The Pera Granita journey begins with a blast of sparkling citrus, quickly followed by the pear note which is a bit more cool and crisp than sweet. The scent then mellows as a floral accord comes into play. The dry down is musky but it still has a fruity floral element and the pear that comes through reminds me of pear drops. All in all, it’s a gorgeous scent that’s harmonious and exhilarating.
Another reason I enjoy collecting the Aqua Allegoria range is that the flacon references the iconic Guerlain Bee Bottle and is really stunning. It has a honeycomb gold ‘mesh’ surrounding the top part of the bottle and the bee emblem is engraved on the top of the stopper (unfortunately, I didn’t manage to take a good enough image of this to do it justice).
It’s really hard to pick a favourite from my Aqua Allegoria collection as they each satisfy a different mood. However, the Pamplelune is quite exceptional and has pretty much set the benchmark for grapefruit scents in the world of perfume.
Aqua Allegoria Pera Granita is available in 75ml and 125ml, though the 125ml is really hard to find online. The 75ml bottle is £47 and available HERE.
•Also just launched is Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop but this is only available at Travel/Duty Free shops.
