Around this time of the year and for the next few months the latest crop of sun protection products are launched. One of the first to hit the shelves is Aveda Daily Light Guard SPF 30 and it’s a prime example of how advanced and easy-to-wear sun protection products are now.
Daily Light Guard contains a mineral sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. This means it provides top level protection against UVB, UVA1 and UVA2. Mineral sunscreens used to equate to thick creams that left a white, chalky caste on the face. Daily Light Guard has a very thin liquid-like consistency that instantly disappears on the skin. It feels very light on the skin and has a slight sheen to it. Foundations, powder or both can be applied on top without any dire consequences such as balling or patchiness.
Other benefits of Daily Light Guard include…
- The minerals are even sized and have a special coating that help them spread across the skin leading to the sheer coverage I referred to above.
- It contains certified organic Kukiui Seed Oil for strengthening the skin’s barrier function.
- A blend of the anti-oxidants Ayurvedic Rice Bran, Rosemary Extract, Ginger and Vitamin E further help protect the skin by neutralising free radicals.
Daily Light Guard looks small but don’t let that put you off as it’s actually a great example of ‘Lean Manufacturing’. I predicated this would be a trend for 2016 and it means that the bottle size is no bigger than it needs to be. Basically, it’s the opposite of slack fill (designing packaging to look deceptively big). For instance I have bottles that are almost twice the size of Daily Light Guard but contain the same amount of product.

This looks lovely! Can you post the actual ingredients as well? I am curious if alcohol is used to give it that super light feeling. Not sure why Aveda doesn’t have them on the website… 🙁
Hi Poulette, I’ve updated the post with the ingredients. I can’t see alcohol on the list – can you? It definitely doesn’t have the feel or smell of a product with alcohol nor does it leave my skin feeling dry. Hope this helps. X
You’re the best for posting the pic!
And yes I don’t see any alcohol either, which is a relief – I have recently become quite sensitive to it which is making some of my favorite sunscreens difficult to wear for longer periods of time. This one looks delightful!
It’s an absolute pleasure. If you’re becoming sensitive to sunscreen I think you’re right to look for a mineral one without alcohol. X
This looks like what I have been searching for! I have lost count of the so-called ‘light, easily absorbed’ sunscreens I have tried which have turned my face into a white greasy mess and brought me out in spots!
