Trends and advice for healthy living change so quickly it can be hard to know what to believe. I’ve stared dismissing most of them as being faddish and lacking in foundation. However, there’s one area that’s currently receiving a lot of attention and that I’ve bought into wholesale – the importance of our microbiome and gut health. I’ve been reading The Diet Myth by Professor Tim Spector which, in essence, is a very convincing argument for why we need to take this subject seriously.
The main premise is that the health of our gut is inextricably linked to all other aspects of our wellbeing from weight gain to depression. It doesn’t take a huge leap to connect the health of our skin to microbiomes which is why I included Probiotic Skincare in my post on Trends For 2016. It’s also why I’m glad to see The Beauty Chef range arrive in the UK, exclusively at Selfridges.
The Beauty Chef is an Australian brand that’s been on my radar for quite awhile now. The range is divided into Inner Beauty (for ingesting) and Outer Beauty (for topical use). Their tagline is ‘Beauty Begins In The Belly’ and fermented foods, prebiotics and probiotics are at the heart of every product. There’s lots to read and watch on their site HERE.
It seems to have had only a soft launch into Selfridges but some of the products have sold out already which bodes well for The Beauty Chef’s future in the UK. I’m definitely hoping it will be a success, not least because it marries beauty with health which is nothing but a positive association.
Another probiotic skincare range launching soon in the UK is mybody. It’s a US based brand started by Christine Watson a former buyer at Harrods and David Watson, who founded Philosophy. It will distributed by Skinbrands who work with with skincare brands at the clinical end of the spectrum such as Medik8 and Elizabeth Arden Pro.
